The Refúgio Betânia (Bethany Refuge) was created as a non-profit Religious Association linked to the Bethany Evangelical Church, with the purpose of developing charity work among the homeless in the city of Porto, which we have been doing since the year 2008.
The Bethany Evangelical Church adopts the teachings of the Holy Bible and maintains regular church services for the preaching of the Gospel. It has its head office at Rua de Damão, 289 and 297 - 4465-119 - São Mamede de Infesta - Portugal.
The Bethany Evangelical Church was constituted on 06/09/1994 with the NIPC 503 817 520.
The Bethany Refuge - Christian Community was constituted on 08/03/2012 with the NIPC 510 601 960.
As a Christian Community that we are, we are entrusted by the Lord:
1. To preach the Gospel, the Good News of Salvation in Christ Jesus, the only Mediator between God and Man: "For there is One God, and one Mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ, man. Who gave himself as price of redemption for all, to bear witness in due season." (I Timothy 2:5-6).
2. To live daily in a spirit of prayer, as an experience of communion with God, following the example of the early Church: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine, and in fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (Acts 2:42)
3. To exercise christian charity by renouncing material goods, using them for the sake of others, as a way of following the Master in fullness: "If you want to be perfect, go, sell everything you have and give it to the poor, And thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, and follow me." (Matthew 19:21) This charity is to be exercised first among the brethren (Galatians 6:10) and extended to all the needy, of any race or religion, for all are our brethren; In each one we must see the Person of Jesus Christ (Matthew 25: 35-40)
4. To disclose the New Living Revelation. We believe that the Holy Spirit never ceased to speak to God’s people for Jesus gave us this assurance: "But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth; For he will not speak of himself, but will speak all that he has heard, and he will tell you what is to come. He will glorify me, for he will receive of what is mine, and he will disclose it to you." (John 16: 13-14)
Before closing his gospel, the apostle John says that many things related to the earthly ministry of Jesus were not written (John 21:25). But the Lord never left man without witness. Throughout the history of Christianity, the Lord has been raising prophets. One of them was Jakob Lorber, an Austrian Catholic, who from 15 March 1840 until his death wrote daily the messages which the Lord have dictated to him. Among the written works, dealing with almost every subject of interest to mankind, the Lord revealed His steps during His ministry on earth. This work, "The Great Gospel of John," inspired by the Spirit of God, clarifies Scripture as a direct revelation of God to mankind. Here are the words of Jesus, justifying the reason for this New Living Revelation: "Here is the reason, why I convey now the Complete Light, so that no one will excuse himself in an erroneous argument that I, from my physical presence on this earth, I had not been concerned with the integral purity of My doctrine and its acceptors. When I come back again, I will make a great selection and I will not accept anyone coming to excuse himself. For all who seek earnestly will find the truth." (Great Gospel of John - volume I - 91:19-20)
Also among us, we have been blessed by the Father, receiving from Him messages dictated to several brethren, showing that the Holy Spirit continues to reveal the secrets of God to men. To these messages that we have been compiling we named "Messages from the Father".
